The film Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, has failed to generate much interest among audiences. The film, which released on February 24th, 2023, became Akshay Kumar’s lowest opener in over a decade, only making Rs. 3 crores on Day 1. And now, the movie continues to fail at the box office.
Despite the presence of two big names, the film earned less than 1 crore in India on Wednesday, 1st March 2023.
Selfiee Box Office Collection
Selfiee, starring Emraan Hashmi as Om Prakash Aggarwal, the biggest fan of Bollywood star Vijay Kumar, played by Akshay Kumar, centers on an ego battle between the two. The movie debuted in theatres this Friday, February 24, to startlingly low numbers, and its box office performance continued to decline.
Raj Mehta whose previous works include Good News and Jug Jug Jiyo directed this comedy-drama film Selfiee. It collected only Rs 2.55 crore on its opening day but showed a little growth on Saturday and Sunday with collections of 3.80 crores and 3.95 crores respectively.
However, according to sources, the movie struggled on its first Monday. It suffered a drastic drop of 67% and only managing to bring in Rs 1.3 crore. Selfie saw another sharp decline on Day 6, or March 1, and brought less than 1 crore. This indicates that its net revenue for the first six days in India was only Rs 13.70 crore, which is underwhelming, to say the least.
Box Office India reported, “There is no major new release this week but still the film will not be able to reach the 20 crore mark. It is a ridiculously low number for the film but shows that there is absolutely no hope today for films that do not look interesting and then on top have weak content even if with stars.”
About Selfiee
Selfiee is a remake of Driving License, a 2019 released Malayalam drama that starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu. It was a huge hit—however, Selfiee wasn’t quite as successful at the box office.
Star Studios in collaboration with Dharma Productions, Prithviraj Productions, Magic Frames, and Cape Of Good Films, Star Studios presents Selfiee. Production credits go to Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Supriya Menon, Karan Johar, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Apoorva Mehta, and Listin Stephen. Along with Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, the movie also starred Diana Penty and Nushratt Bharuccha.
Despite being a film that stars Akshay Kumar, and was heavily promoted before its release, Selfiee turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in Bollywood history. Akshay Kumar’s latest release continued his lean phase. His recent films such as Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, and Bachchhan Paandey too failed at the box office.
