The Future of Cloud Computing In 2024

    AndyBy Andy08/03/2024Updated:27/03/2024No Comments4 Mins Read

Cloud computing has emerged as a transformative force within the technology industry, significantly impacting how businesses operate. This evolution has been further bolstered by a series of emerging technologies that prioritise security within cloud computing networks. Many businesses leverage managed IT services to harness these advancements and ensure cloud security. Third-party providers offer expert guidance and support, allowing businesses to focus on their core operations while benefiting from the latest innovations in cloud security.

    • 10 Emerging Technology of Cloud Computing
      • Containers:
      • Serverless:
      • Microservices:
      • DevOps:
      • Internet of Things (IoT):
      • Artificial Intelligence (AI):
      • Edge Computing:
      • Kubernetes:
      • DevSecOps:
      • Open Source:
    • Unlock the Full Potential of Cloud Computing

This article explores not only ten emerging technologies impacting the security landscape of cloud networks, but also delves into the broader trends, technological advancements, and transformative shifts that are poised to shape the future of cloud computing in 2024 and beyond.

10 Emerging Technology of Cloud Computing

    • Containers:

Container technology emerged as a lightweight software packaging approach, aligning with the IT industry’s increasing demand for agility and handling complexity. Unlike traditional virtual machines (VMs) which encompass the entire operating system, containers bundle a specific application with its essential dependencies, enabling seamless portability across private cloud platforms. This self-contained nature allows them to run virtually anywhere, from developer workstations to public cloud deployments.

    • Serverless:

Serverless computing emerged in response to challenges in managing hardware and software provisioning. It alleviates these burdens by handling critical maintenance and scaling, allowing businesses to prioritise higher-value tasks within their cloud systems. This pay-per-use model, aligned with the growing trend of cost-effective computing, utilises a function-as-a-service (FaaS) approach to streamline cloud infrastructure. Serverless execution within the cloud offloads routine management tasks (provisioning, scaling, patching, etc.) to the provider, freeing engineers to focus on core application logic.

    • Microservices:

Monolithic application architectures, characterised by a single, large codebase, are increasingly being replaced by a modular approach known as microservices architecture. This approach decomposes complex applications into smaller, independent services, each with a well-defined business capability and interface. This modularity facilitates independent development, deployment, and scaling of individual services by smaller teams, leading to faster delivery cycles and improved agility.

    • DevOps:

DevOps has emerged as a significant trend that has positively impacted the adoption of virtualisation within cloud computing environments. This cultural shift fosters collaboration between development and operations teams, traditionally siloed entities. By working towards shared objectives, these teams can achieve greater efficiency and agility in the software development lifecycle, ultimately enhancing an organisation’s competitive advantage.

    • Internet of Things (IoT):

The Internet of Things (IoT) has significantly transformed the technological landscape, encompassing various applications such as wearable fitness trackers, smart home systems, and autonomous vehicles. These applications generate vast amounts of data, necessitating efficient processing solutions. Cloud-based data analytics platforms, leveraging the capabilities of hyper-scalable servers, offer a compelling solution for processing this data.

    • Artificial Intelligence (AI):

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming industries with its ability to perform tasks traditionally requiring human intervention. While developing AI applications can be complex due to computational needs, cloud consultation services offer accessible solutions like machine learning and deep learning tools. As AI evolves, advancements in automation, self-learning, and data security/privacy are expected, alongside the development of more personalised cloud experiences.

    • Edge Computing:

Edge computing is a distributed computing paradigm that processes data at the network edge, closer to its source. This approach minimises latency and bandwidth usage, while facilitating real-time applications and efficient handling of the ever-increasing volume of data generated by Internet of Things (IoT) devices. As the convergence of the telecommunications and IT industries continues, edge computing is emerging as a key technology, unlocking new opportunities for organisations by enabling the deployment of cloud-based applications closer to the edge of the network.

    • Kubernetes:

The rise of container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and Docker addresses challenges in large-scale deployments by offering exceptional scalability and efficiency.  Kubernetes, an open-source platform known for its extensibility, facilitates centralised management of services and workloads while allowing applications to run from a single source. Its rapid evolution positions it as a key contributor to future cloud advancements.

    • DevSecOps:

Cloud computing offers user-friendly data management but presents security challenges like unauthorised access and denial-of-service attacks. Historically, these concerns hindered adoption, but DevSecOpsoffers a solution. By integrating security throughout development and automating core tasks, DevSecOps enables comprehensive security in cloud environments. This approach is crucial as cloud security remains paramount.

    • Open Source:

The tech industry’s shift towards open innovation fosters exploration of open-source cloud solutions, offering enterprises customisable infrastructure and rapid scalability compared to closed-source alternatives. This collaborative approach aligns well with businesses seeking adaptability in their cloud environments.

Unlock the Full Potential of Cloud Computing

By embracing these emerging technologies and partnering with a reputable managed IT services provider, businesses can future-proof their cloud environment. This proactive approach ensures they are well-equipped to navigate the ever-changing cloud landscape and leverage the latest innovations for long-term success.
