Asthma card in hands of Medical Doctor

Asthma is a lung disorder that is characterised by narrowing or tightening of the airways. The narrowing of the tubes that carry air into the lung make it harder for air to flow out when one breathes. On the other hand, Erectile Dysfunction is a male sexual disease that is defined by the inability to obtain or keep a strong and spontaneous erection during sex. These two issues may seem completely distant from one another. However, both asthma and ED are heavily linked with one another.

    Link Between Asthma and ED

Many men around the world suffer from both ED and asthma. Interestingly, some studies have been undertaken on this issue and researchers have been able to find out that, asthma can indeed be a contributing factor to the development of ED in men. In a study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, researchers proved that asthma can be an independent risk factor for ED, and the risk of ED and severity of asthma were positively linked. Another study published in The International Journal of Clinical Practice showed that 25% of asthma patients had mild ED, 22.5% of asthma patients had moderate ED and 10% of asthma patients had severe ED. But how does asthma cause ED? Well, asthma can cause low self-esteem in men. Low self-esteem can negatively impact a man’s confidence and ability to focus. These psychological issues can lead to ED. Moreover, asthma can cause breathlessness and fatigue, which again can negatively affect erectile function in men. Some medications used to treat asthma such as beta-agonists, corticosteroids, and leukotriene modifiers can induce ED in some cases.

    Other Causes of ED

Besides asthma, ED can be caused due to a number of other issues. Underlying medical conditions that reduce blood supply to the penis are among the direct or indirect causes of ED. Men can have Erectile Dysfunction due to several illnesses, including diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Smoking, too much drinking, and obesity can induce ED as well. Low testosterone levels, which are essential for men’s sexual and erectile health, can also cause ED. Low testosterone levels can be the cause of men’s diminished sexual arousal. Trauma to the penile region or other events that cause damage to the penile tissues can potentially cause erectile dysfunction. ED could emerge if this occurs because damaged penile tissues restrict blood from circulating freely through the tissues of the penis.

    How to Cope with Asthma

Living with asthma can be a bit tricky, but nothing is impossible. With a little bit of carefulness, it’s  possible to lead a happy life even with asthma. First of all, if you have asthma then make sure to consult an experienced medical professional. Follow the doctor’s guidelines and suggestions. Then figure out your asthma triggers and try to avoid them. Asthma triggers may include exposure to pollen, dust mites, smoke, chemical fumes, strenuous exercises, cold weather, dry air, humidity, etc.  If you use inhaler, always keep it to yourself. If asthma symptoms occur, then stop what you were doing, be calm, use your inhaler, and continue with your work when everything turns normal.

How To Deal with Asthma During Sex

If you have asthma, there is a possibility that you may experience asthma symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath during sex. However, if your asthma is well-controlled, then you can hope to have sex without any issues. However, if you by any chance suffer from such symptoms during sex, then you should stop doing physical movement and pause sexual activity. Take a break. Calm down and use your inhaler. When you feel like you are in a fit situation, then it is safe to resume, if the moment hasn’t passed. . You should also explore other sex positions if your current sex position puts pressure on your chest and constricts your breathing.

    Treatments of ED

Below we will mention some effective ED treatments.

    1. Medicines: The most popular approach to treating erectile dysfunction globally is unquestionably medicine or oral medication such as PDE-5 inhibitors. The penis receives more blood thanks to these medications. Sexual activity becomes easier for men after taking these drugs, due to the increased blood flow inside the penile tissues. These medications are widely available. However, not all men may benefit from these medications. Considering that some men who use these medicines may also have additional health issues such as headaches, nosebleeds, impaired eyesight, low blood pressure, and other related issues. Moreover, these medicines tend to lose effectiveness in the long run.
    2. Managing Underlying Medical Conditions: Treatment for underlying medical conditions will also benefit ED patients. For instance, if diabetes or hypertension are the root causes of erectile dysfunction in men, treating these diseases may assist to lessen their negative effects and, ultimately, enhance the patients’ erectile health.
    3. Vacuum Pumps for Erectile Dysfunction: One method of non-invasive treatment for ED involves vacuum pumps. Penile vacuum pumps increase blood flow by creating a suction inside the penis. This suction draws blood into the penis. The ability for patients to use these pumps independently at home is their best feature. They are very effective. Vacuum pumps can also be used in combination with other treatments, such as oral medications. However, when utilising them patients may feel some pain if they don’t know how to use these pumps accurately.
    4. Penile Injections: Penile injections such as an E shot can be effective in treating ED, though these injections must be undertaken by a fully trained professional have some negative side effects in some patients. After taking penile injections, some patients may experience priapism, penile pain, or infection.
    5. Surgeries: Only in extreme cases of ED is surgery recommended, when all other treatments fail. One kind of surgery for ED is penile implants. Patients with ED may have penile implants surgically inserted into their penis. However, patients cannot get natural erections with this procedure, even though these implants are successful at creating erections for sexual activity.
    6. Shockwave Therapy: A more recent technique for treating ED is shockwave therapy. It was first invented to treat patients with kidney stones. Later, it was employed by doctors to treat several other illnesses, including erectile dysfunction. Shockwave therapy for ED is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment option. Following the administration of this therapy, patients can immediately resume their regular activities. Low-intensity shockwaves are used in this non-invasive procedure. Blood flow inside the penile tissues is increased by the low-intensity shockwaves used in this therapy. Additionally, shockwave therapy can generate new blood vessels which can ensure improved blood flow in the penis. Sadly, this kind of therapy is still rather uncommon worldwide. However, some hospitals provide shockwave therapy with great efficacy. MansMatters is one of them. It’s a specialized men’s health clinic located in London, UK. Additionally, MansMatters offers other modern non-invasive ED therapies including EMTT therapy, NanoVi, and the Tesla Chair.
    7. EMTT Therapy: Extracorporeal magneto transduction therapy or EMTT therapy is also a non-invasive modern treatment procedure that utilizes a strong magnetic field to further improve blood flow in the penis. This therapy hastens the recovery process of the body and enhances endothelial function. According to MansMatters, the effectiveness of EMTT therapy increased significantly when used in conjunction with shockwave therapy.

    Conclusion

Although asthma and ED are two very different medical conditions affecting different body parts, they are heavily interlinked. Asthma can pose some major negative consequences on the sex life of men. Moreover, ED can lead to stress, anxiety, or relationship problems. But thankfully, both of these conditions are treatable if effective treatments are taken.
