The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the 9th edition of the tournament this time. The World Cup will be hosted by Bangladesh from the 3rd to 20th October 2024. In the previous edition of the tournament, the Australian team won the cup by defeating the South Africans in the finals. So, the expectations from the Australian Women’s Cricket team are pretty high this time around as well. Australia had defeated SA by 19 runs and lifted the cup for the sixth time. It is one of the most successful teams in the history of International Women’s Cricket until now. However, fans suggest that the scope for other teams is also rising as the performances have significantly improved.
10 teams are participating in the tournament in 2024 and these will be divided into 2 groups. Group A will have India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan and Australia. Group B will have South Africa, Scotland, England, Bangladesh, and the West Indies. The point system is typically adopted and the teams that win the maximum number of times qualify for the semi-finals and then ultimately the finals at the end of the tournament. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that the matches will be played in Dhaka and Sylhet cricket stadiums and the latter will host the finals towards the end of the tournament.
The warm-up matches will start from 27 September and will last up to 1st October 2024. The fixtures and the team squads have already been announced by the respective teams and the enthusiasm for the matches is on the rise after India won the International Men’s Cricket T20 World Cup 2024. All eyes are on the women’s team to bring home another World Cup to the shores of the country.
