In fact, very few characters have had the journey and transformation that Ahsoka Tano has had in Star Wars. Full of twists and turns, her journey throughout the Star Wars universe significantly impacted several other characters and stories from Star Wars: Rebels to the Mandalorian.
In this piece, we shall be taking a look at Ahsoka Tano’s timeline in Star Wars and how her various adventures transformed her into the fierce warrior and leader that she is today.
The Clone Wars (Season 1-5)
The earliest seasons of the Clone Wars mark the beginning of Ahsoka Tano’s journey in Star Wars. During this time, Ahsoka was still a stubborn and impulsive Jedi Padawan, learning about war and her Jedi Masters. Season 1 sees her learning about her master, Anakin, and the consequences of disobeying the Council. It also shows her first encounter with the likes of Asajj Ventress and General Grievous.
As time progressed, Ahsoka continued to learn valuable lessons (Tera Sinube teaching her about patience) and foster friendships (with Barriss Offee). She also continued to hone her lightsaber skills and even proved herself to be a skilled fighter during the Second Battle of Geonosis.
By season 3 of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka was already showing more signs of growth as she became more aware, skillful, and intelligent. Her bond with Anakin also got stronger, and by the end of the season, Ahsoka proved her capabilities, independence, and resourcefulness by helping herself and other Padawans captured by Trandoshans escape.
Season 5 of Clone Wars was where Ahsoka Tano’s journey took a heartbreaking turn. The beginning of the season shows how much Ahsoka has grown into her own person. She could be seen leading a group of Jedi Younglings through their final steps to becoming Padawans – this Ahsoka was very much different from the impulsive hot-head who struggled with following orders in season 1.
Season 5 also highlighted Ahsoka’s impressive skills as a duelist and her distinctive combat style of dueling with two lightsabers. These two Ahsoka Tano lightsabers consisted of a standard lightsaber and a shoto lightsaber, which she held in a reverse grip and used for defense.
Episode 20 of The Clone Wars season 5 presents Ahsoka with her biggest challenge yet as she is framed for treason and sedition. Following a trial held by the Jedi Council, Ahsoka is expelled from the Jedi Order and is forced to leave her Master, Anakin, and her lightsabers behind.
The Clone Wars (Season 7)
Following her exile, Ahsoka finds herself helping people while living a life outside the Jedi Order. She also begins to view the Jedi Order in a new light, and even after Anakin clears her name and her exile was lifted, she does not return to the Order but chooses to carve her own path instead. Her former master, Anakin, does return her lightsabers to her after modifying and changing their blades from green to blue.
With these blue lightsabers, Ahsoka fought during the Siege of Mandalore. She eventually saves Rex from order 66, and after fighting her way off the Venator (a warship), she fakes her death, abandons her lightsabers, and begins a life of fighting against the Empire from the shadows.
Star Wars: Rebels
Ahsoka Tano would later resurface in Star Wars: Rebels, where she reveals herself as Fulcrum, the mysterious figure who had been helping a group of rebels fighting against the Empire. She also finds out in a painful reunion that her former master, Anakin has transformed into the Sith Dark Lord, Darth Vader. She eventually faces off with Vader, and after surviving the battle, Ahsoka sets out on a new path with Sabine Wren to find Ezra.
The Mandalorian (Season 2)
The Mandalorian (which was set 5 years after Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi) sees the return of Ahsoka Tano, who is still searching for Ezra Bridger but seems to be getting closer to finding him. The Mandalorian also reveals that during the events of the Galactic Civil War, Ahsoka was stuck on Malachor (a Sith planet) for years, unable to escape.
Ahsoka (Season 1)
Ahsoka Tano’s journey is far from over, as the new Ahsoka series shows her and Sabine Wren on the search for Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn (a villain who disappeared alongside Ezra during the events of Star Wars: Rebels).
Conclusion
From an impulsive, hot-head Jedi Padawan to an outcast, a commander, a rebel, and a hero, Ahsoka Tano has had one of the best character transformations in Star Wars. The many adventures and challenges she faced also played a major role in shaping her into the powerful character that fans love today. And with the new Ahsoka series, Tano’s journey has only just begun.
