RunCam Link Wasp
If you’re serious about FPV drones, you’ve likely heard of the RunCam Link Wasp—a digital FPV system that brings impressive performance and convenience to pilots. After testing it thoroughly, I can confidently say this system is designed with both casual flyers and competitive pilots in mind. Let’s break down its key features and see how it performs in the field.
2.1 Key Features
Easy Setup with DJI
- The Wasp works directly with the DJI FPV Remote Controller.
- No need for extra receivers, which saves time and money.
8 Channels for Group Flying
- Up to 8 drones can fly at the same time with no interference.
- Each pilot gets their own exclusive channel for a smooth experience.
HD Camera Performance
- Shoots at 120fps with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
- Wide 155° FOV gives you a great view.
- Low latency of just 28ms for fast and responsive flying.
2.2 Performance in the Air
The RunCam Wasp HD camera is the star of the show. It supports 120fps at a 4:3 aspect ratio with a wide 155° field of view (FOV). What does this mean in practice?
- Crisp Video Quality: The HD feed is incredibly detailed, making it easier to navigate tight spaces or hit those perfect freestyle tricks.
- Low Latency: With latency as low as 28ms, there’s virtually no delay between your inputs and what you see through your goggles. This is critical for racing and precise flying.
- Immersive View: The wide 155° FOV gives you more visual coverage, making the flying experience feel more natural and immersive.
During my test flights, the Wasp performed exceptionally well in a variety of conditions. Whether I was zipping through obstacles on a freestyle track or cruising over open fields, the system delivered a rock-solid video feed. Even in crowded environments, I didn’t experience any noticeable interference, thanks to the dedicated frequency channels.
2.3 Setup and Ease of Use
Setting up the RunCam Link Wasp is refreshingly simple. If you’re using a DJI FPV Remote Controller, the built-in receiver allows for a direct connection. This feature alone saves a lot of time and effort, especially for beginners who might find traditional setups overwhelming.
Additionally, the system is lightweight and compact, which means it won’t weigh down your drone or affect its flight performance. This makes it an excellent choice for both freestyle rigs and racing builds.

RunCam Night Eagle 3
The RunCam Night Eagle 3 is the latest addition to the popular Eagle series. While it builds on the strengths of its predecessor, the Eagle 2, there are a few key differences that make this camera stand out. Here’s my hands-on experience with it and what you should know before buying.
3.1 Key Features
- Image Sensor: 1/2.8″ Starlight CMOS Sensor.
- Resolution: 1000TVL for crisp details.
- Lens: 2.1mm with a wide 155° FOV, supporting both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.
- WDR (Wide Dynamic Range): Helps balance bright and dark areas in the frame.
- Low Weight: At only 9g, it’s great for lightweight builds.
- Voltage Range: DC 5-36V for flexibility in power setups.
3.2 Performance Overview
3.2.1 Image Quality
RunCam really stepped up the image quality in the Eagle 3. Compared to the Eagle 2, it delivers sharper and more detailed images without over-sharpening. Colors look natural and balanced, fixing the blue tint that many pilots disliked in the Eagle 2.
Shadow details are excellent, just like the Eagle 2, which was a favorite feature for many pilots. This makes it a reliable camera for flying in environments with lots of contrast, like areas with trees and bright sunlight.
3.2.2 Low Light Performance
This is where the Eagle 3 struggles. The smaller image sensor doesn’t handle low light as well, leading to noticeable noise in darker areas. If you fly at dusk or at night, this might be a dealbreaker. However, for daytime flights, the performance is outstanding.
3.2.3 Usability
The camera is lightweight and compact, making it easy to install on most FPV drones. However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:
- No UART Connection: To change settings, you’ll need to use the cable control dongle or configure through your flight controller.
- No Built-in Voltage Detection: Unlike some other cameras, the Eagle 3 doesn’t show battery voltage in the OSD. You’ll need to rely on Betaflight OSD for that.
3.3 Who Is It For?
The RunCam Night Eagle 3 is best suited for:
- Daytime Freestylers and Racers: Its sharp image quality and natural colors make it perfect for daytime flights.
- Pilots Who Need Wide Dynamic Range: Great for areas with mixed lighting conditions, such as flying between shadows and open sunlight.
- If you frequently fly in low-light conditions, you might want to consider other cameras with better night performance.
3.4 Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Excellent daytime image quality with natural colors.
- Wide FOV and switchable aspect ratios.
- Lightweight and easy to install.
Cons:
- Poor low-light performance.
- No built-in voltage detection in the OSD.
- Requires a dongle for menu control.

RunCam Thumb Pro

The RunCam Thumb Pro is a compact action camera designed specifically for FPV drones. Weighing only 16.5 grams, it offers impressive features like 4K recording, built-in gyroscope, and ND filter compatibility. After testing it on multiple builds, here’s my detailed review.
4.1 Key Features
- Resolution Options: 4K@30fps, 2.7K@60fps, 1080P@120fps for slow motion.
- Sensor: Sony IMX577 (12MP).
- Field of View: 150° wide-angle lens.
- Built-in Gyroscope: Works seamlessly with Gyroflow for video stabilization.
- Lightweight Design: Only 16.5 grams, perfect for micro and lightweight builds.
- ND Filter Support: Included lens protector can be swapped for ND filters (ND4, 16, 32).
- Power Input: Runs on 5V with low power consumption (2.5W).
4.2 Performance
The Thumb Pro delivers sharp 4K footage, a major upgrade from the original Thumb camera. Using Gyroflow makes stabilization easy, and the results are smooth and professional. White balance can shift in changing light, but locking it in settings can fix this.
ND filters are a great addition, especially for reducing jello and adding cinematic effects. They’re easy to swap out depending on lighting conditions.
4.3 Usability
The camera is simple to use. Just press the single button to start recording. You can also connect it to a flight controller via Betaflight UART to control recording from your transmitter.
File access is fast and easy through the micro USB port. You can download a 3-minute, 1GB video in about a minute.
4.4 Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Lightweight and compact.
- 4K recording with gyro stabilization.
- Simple controls and fast file access.
Cons:
- White balance issues in changing light.
- Requires Gyroflow for stabilized footage.
